Maryann

Facilitator

Maryann is a Junior at Alden High School. She has been a Chief Science Officer since 2019. For those wondering, the CSO program allows students to design and implement STEM based events within their school. Beyond her role as CSO, she is a member of National Honor Society, Varsity Soccer, and Varsity Track and Field. Maryann plans to pursue a career as a Physician’s Assistant.

Kiersten

Moderator


Kiersten is a freshman at Alden High School. It is her second year in the Chief Science Officer Program. The CSO program is a unique experience that strives to spread STEM awareness within CSOs' communities. As a part of the experience, Kiersten planned a science fair to be held in Alden Middle School, which had to be implemented virtually due to COVID-19. This year, she is involved in the Drama Club and the Scholastic Bowl. In middle school, she was in Creativity Club, Spanish Club, National Junior Honor Society, High School Musical Jr., Willy Wonka Jr., W.O.W. Club, and Battle of the Books. Outside of school, she is a member of 4-H and the Buffalo Niagara Youth Choir.


Skilled Trades Apprenticeships

Youth and adult apprenticeship programs are a great career path for people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and skills. The paths can go in many directions and "the sky's the limit" with rewards for talented and hard working people. Students, trades educators, unions, and employers will offer a wide range of ideas, opportunities, and next steps for students curious about a future in the Skilled Trades.

Amelia

Facilitator

Amelia is a Junior at Alden High School. She has been involved with the ATLAS Team since 2018 and is also the team’s Student Out Reach President. Over the past year, Amelia hosted the Manufacturing Trades Career Panel and has also been involved in a number of the team’s projects. Outside of the team, she is involved in Student Congress, Yearbook, Model UN, NHS, Bulldog Manufacturing, Big Brother Big Sister, Cultural Diversity Club, Theatre Club, and Alden’s Theatrical productions. Amelia is planning on pursuing an education in the engineering or medical field.

Andrew

Facilitator

Andrew is a current junior, hiker, and plant lover. He also is very passionate about computer science and robotics. Since eighth grade, he has been a part of the Alden Robotics Team. On the Alden Robotics team, he learned how to use CAD, connect with professionals, and code. One particular element of coding that he enjoys is autonomous programming for robots.

Hayden

Hayden is a freshman at Alden HS. He enjoys playing football, coding, 3D modeling, and investing. Hayden has been on the Alden Robotics Team, since 7th grade, and involved with the robotics program since 5th. He is also on the ATLAS team. After high school, Hayden is planning on going to college for cyber security.

Michael

Facilitator

Michael is a Senior at Alden High School. He has been a Chief Science Officer since 2019. The CSO program is an intriguing program designed to build interest in the Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) fields. Through this program, the CSO’s, ATLAS team members, and advisor Mr. Turton have been working to design and enact a culminating event that will bring an innovating and exciting STEM experience to Alden High School. Beyond the CSO program, Michael takes part in the Varsity Tennis team, National Honor Society, Jazz Band, Scholastic Bowl, Science Olympiad, Model UN, Student Congress, Key Club, and Friends of the Planet. After graduating, Michael will be attending UB for Mechanical Engineering.

Nathaniel is a freshman at Alden High School and exciting to join the leadership team of the WNYIT Conference. He is involved with AHS Musical, Scholastic Bowl, Model U.N, Jazz Band, and Mock Trial. He plans to have a career in History Education

Jacob is a junior at Alden High School. Currently he is enrolled in Computer Applications. He is planning on enrolling in Alden's Bulldog Manufacturing program next year. He is involved with varsity basketball and football. After high school, he plans on pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Jared is a freshman at Alden Central High School. This is his first year in ATLAS, the Blackwater Bots (Alden Robotics Team), and with WNYIT. His interests are gaming, creating gaming YouTube videos, writing & making films and uploading them to YouTube, website design, and helping out with ATLAS. The clubs/extracurricular activities he is in are Robotics, ATLAS, Gamer’s Guild, Theater Club, and Alden High School’s musicals. He doesn’t plan to go to college at the moment, but if it is needed, probably take a course about directing and filmmaking in a college either in state or out of state. His goal after high school is to start a film company and produce films that promote the Gospel.

3D Modeling/CAD-CAM

Design and modeling in 3D is critical to manufacturing and construction careers. Through demonstrations and Q&A, industry partners, students and educators will share examples of modeling software applications used in industry today. Many platforms are free to students who want to explore more on their own.

Alden Robotics Team

The Alden Robotics Team, is hosting a live engineering panel. This panel will bring together experienced professionals with a STEM background.


Drone and Flight Simulation

Drone technology is changing how we view and interact with the world in dramatic ways: military missions, logistics, real estate, construction management, recreation and more.

Flight simulation technology is no longer reserved for big military budgets and video games (although they have huge impact). Flight simulation is exciting and educational with overlap in every STEM discipline.

Nathan a 15 year old student at Alden High School who is aspiring to be an airline pilot. He has always loved the thought of flight. He is currently taking flight lessons at Lancaster Airport.

Zakk

Moderator

Zakk is 14 years old and a freshman at Alden High School. He joined the Atlas Team this year. Outside of school, he is involved in Yearbook club. Zakk plans to pursue an education along with a career in computer science and engineering.

Student Tech Support Team & Enterprise

The creation of a student technology team is a crucial step in furthering a student’s connection to their school. Through careful planning and trial and error, the Alden ATLAS Team, Lancaster Techsperts, and many other districts have been not only found success in this area, but have created an enterprise with their students. Learn from professionals who entered on all different levels of these teams on how exactly they did it, and how you can do it too.

Cheyanne is a senior at Alden High School. She has been a part of the ATLAS Team since 2018 and is the team’s current Treasurer. Cheyanne has been a part of several projects on the ATLAS Team in the past, including leading the One to the World Initiative session at last year’s WNYIT Conference, presenting at Staff Development days, and recording various school events. Outside of the ATLAS Team she participates in Fall and Winter Cheerleading, Friends of the Planet, Bulldog Manufacturing, Renegade Drum Corps, and Jazz Band.

Tyler B.

Tyler is a senior at Alden High School. Last year he joined the Atlas Team and took his first technology courses in efforts to strengthen his technological skills before heading off to college. Throughout his time in high school Tyler has taken all the Spanish courses and went on both international trips. He has also been an active member of both the Alden High School’s Key Club As well as Model UN. This Fall Tyler will be attending Canisius College where he will be pursuing a degree in International Relations. In the future he hopes to be able to work in a field where he can travel and interact with all parts of the world


Social Media Production

Making a difference in the world usually required that people know what about what the difference is. How can we effectively inform an audience of diverse people about news, ideas, events, and movements? Let's share ideas about how to be better at communicating our goals and influencing our audience or "followers" to support a common objective.

Rayahna

Facilitator

Rayahna is a junior at Alden High School. She is the Social Media Manager for WACS News and also a photographer and reporter. Rayahna does Public Relations for Alden’s cross country team and football team. She runs on the cross country and track and field teams and participates in theatrical productions and theater club at Alden High School. Recently this year she became a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in student congress since her freshman year. In April of 2020, Rayahna hosted the Women in Technology panel. After graduating from Alden, Rayahna plans to major in communications and minor in multimedia journalism and sports marketing.

Sophie

Moderator


Sophie is a Sophomore at Alden High School. She is a Social Media Editor and reporter for WACS News. She is also involved in student congress, international club, ATLAS and art club. Outside of school Sophie enjoys playing soccer, skiing and doing competitive dance. She is unsure of plans after High School but enjoys math and education.
